Here’s My Story

It was spring semester, and I had just asked my students if they had any questions about the exam.

One student bravely raised her hand and inquired, "What college did you go to?"

Though the question was completely out of left field, I was delightfully surprised that they cared enough to ask.

Soon enough, they were asking me to share my favorite reading recommendations and Apple Music playlists. My brilliant, lovely mother suggested I set up a website so that students could have a window into my life.

So, here's to creative photos, vulnerable blogging, and random fun facts!

And in case you're wondering, I'm 29. It's the first thing my students always want to know.

Karisa You

Hi! I'm Karisa...

And I'm so glad you stumbled onto my page! I'm a business/law professor in SoCal and caretaker for my mom and grandpa.

I've had a passion for social justice since I was little, and my relationship with God always encouraged me to love and care for others. Following college, I felt called to pursue law school to advocate for vulnerable communities. I got to spend a few years doing some cool work in nonprofit law, securing benefits, housing, and justice for foster children, unhoused clients, and undocumented civilians.

When my mother and grandfather became sick with chronic illnesses, I received the perfect opportunity to teach part-time while caretaking for them. I like to say that God opened some insanely impossible and miraculous doors (ask me the story - it's my favorite to share!). Since then, I've adored learning from my students, creating relevant and (hopefully) fun lectures and simulations, and writing for the SOLA Network on the side.

For fun, I enjoy interior decorating boho-chic style and watering my obscene amount of plants, going to the beach on dates with Jesus, binge-ing Futurama, Bridgerton, and Nobody Wants This, and puzzling. Check out my social media (@goodnews_timelesstruths) for my life thoughts and personal insights from struggles and growth.

And please reach out! I would love to meet you and learn about your unique interests, passions, and lives.
